Asian food is a firm favourite here at Central Belfast Apartments: noodles are a particular winner! However, it’s very difficult to get authentic Asian cuisine that doesn’t feel like a Friday night take away. You can imagine the delight when we discovered the best Asian food right on the doorstep of our Citygate Apartments.
Bahn, located on Upper Arthur Street, is easily overlooked with its narrow shop front, but truly is a hidden gem. We realised it must have been something special after seeing queues beyond the door numerous times!
There are only a few tables inside, but take away is available if you aren’t lucky enough to get a table. Even better is the open kitchen area where you can watch the dishes being created. Complimentary tea is provided while you look through the menu.
The menu offers street food from all over the Far East, from southern Thailand to northern Vietnam. The dishes on offer range from curries to noodles to dumplings, and are all packed with authentic Asian flavours. Vegetarians and vegans are particularly well looked after at Bahn with lots of delicious options to choose from. With so much on offer, we were glad to have help from the friendly staff when picking our dishes.
We’ve visited Bahn a few times and have sampled a number of items from the menu, all of which have been packed with flavour and delicious! Some of the more recognizable dishes we have particularly enjoyed are the Chicken Teriyaki and Chicken Katsu Curry, tasty and perfect options if you aren’t feeling so adventurous with your choices.
For the more courageous diners, we’ve also tried the Pisanulok: crispy BBQ pork, minced chicken, beans, peanuts and an egg. This definitely felt like authentic Asian cuisine and was delicious.
If you visit, don’t leave without trying the dumplings. They’re the best you’ll find in Belfast! You can choose from chicken, pork or vegetarian, and they arrive with a unique dipping sauce that perfectly compliments the dumplings. We guarantee that 6 won’t be enough. And sharing them?! Think again!!
Bahn has recently opened a vegetarian restaurant in the city with rave reviews: Jumon. Our vegan parents have visited numerous times and are firm fans!
